Some of our most popular bikes are from the Merida Crossway range. These bikes fit the requirements of locals who want a versatile bike to ride both on-road and off road on the limestone pathways. Crossways are perfect for riding to work. They’re also ideal for pathway rides, long distance bike touring, and even riding the Otago Rail Trail.

Merida Crossways have different frames for the men’s and women’s bikes – the latter have a much lower crossbar making it very easy to mount the bike. They are rugged thanks to lightweight but solid aluminium frames. Better yet, all models come with suspension on the front as well as a fantastic suspension seat post that really takes the bumps out of your ride. I’m talking comfort, no matter how many potholes you might encounter!

There are a few bikes in the Crossway range, with 21, 24, or 27 speed shifting systems – enough for our most challenging hills in Hawke’s Bay. The big secret to the Crossway’s popularity is in the wheels: The Crossway bikes have 700cc wheels, which are larger wheels than standard pathway bikes. This lets you roll with much less pedalling effort required (think about gliding effortlessly past everybody else on their small wheels!)
